Wells Fargo

I spent about $1400 at the Apple store yesterday and everything was ok.

I bought a couple of books for about $80 on Amazon and everything was ok.

I tried to order $127 worth of hardware from Newegg and my card was declined????

After several attempts, including filling out the cc info again, only to have a card with plenty of room left be declined, I gave up and called Wells Fargo.

The recording told me that due to unusually high traffic the wait would be about 7 minutes… It was right. So I got to sit for seven minutes or so, listening to overly loud classical music, interrupted at regular intervals by a recording telling me that I could make a payment online.

A live person finally came on line and we played twenty questions, including having her ask me what my checking account number was.

She said the problem was probably because of the large purchase yesterday and that she thought maybe Newegg was in another country.

Large purchase?? Less than $1400 is a large purchase? I wonder what they would have done if I had tried to buy a fully tricked out Apple server instead of the Mac Mini?

I know the bank is trying to protect me, and I really do appreciate it, but it’s a pain in the ass to have to call and sit on hold to find out why you can’t spend the money they say they want you to spend.

(Do you know how you tell you’re really talking to Wells Fargo?….. The music. –No hacker in his right mind would play music that was obviously designed to make people give up and stop bothering them.)

  1. Protect me? I had thousands on AMEX in LA hotel bills and car rental once for a business trip and they declined the card at dinner with my client making me look like a complete schmoe going up and begging on the phone at the Maitre’d’s desk. No preset limit my ass! “We’ll just arbitrarily decide when it’s most inconvenient for you muthafucka!”
