Weird…. It’s 8:50 pm and I had ONTRAC deliver an order from Amazon.
I made a comment to the driver about it being kind of late for deliveries and he said he’d be at this all night. –I don’t know if something went wrong and they’re playing catch-up or if this is normal for them. The driver was in too big a hurry for me to ask.
Another bit of weirdness. The return address for Amazon is in Fernley, Nevada. That’s about 32 miles east of Reno and it’s claim to fame is that it’s located at the junction point of three highways and two railroads.
I haven’t been through Fernley in a number of years, so I automatically think of a wide spot in the road, pretty much in the middle of nowhere, with a few ranches and farms. Now they have master-planned communities and the Crossroads Commerce Center, which is home to distribution points for Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Cisco Systems, Intuit Inc. and a bunch of others.
Things were so slow up that way that while Fernley was founded in 1904, and became a township in the 30’s, they didn’t bother to incorporate until 2001, and didn’t have their own municiple court until 2002.
Now, as of 2007 Fernley had about 20,000 people, with a median age of 34.8, a median income of $55k and a median house value of $289,500. –My how things have changed.
