Doctor Visit

Ok so I’m sitting in the waiting room waiting for the doctor to give me a basic checkup.
As I looked around I saw a guy a couple of chairs down from me coughing up phlegm that was a lovely shade of green. I noticed a woman sitting across the room because I could hear [...]

Big Brother is Watching

This is from an article in the NYT:
The Brits have a law that allows the local council, police department, the Charity Commission and the ambulance service… whoever to spy on the average Joe.
Suspecting Ms. Paton of falsifying her address to get her daughter into the neighborhood school, local officials here began a covert surveillance [...]

Gopher Control

If you’ve ever been out at Sunset Park and heard what sounds like blasting, it’s just a guy with a small trailer holding a propane/oxygen set up that’s used to keep the gopher population under control.

So I open the box and set it up to charge [...]

They say the batteries last up to 4.5 hours. –”up [...]

And You Think the Guys at Work are Weird

Once again Sunset Park in Las Vegas is closed off to anyone not willing to pay to get in to the Renaissance Faire. (Yes they use a dorky spelling for “fair.”)
The usual belly dancers, jousters jugglers and medieval and Renaissance re-enactors will be on hand, as well, for the three-day event, which runs Friday and [...]

Flip Video

I went out to buy a Flip Mino HD but finally decided that they are not available on the shelf here in Las Vegas, so I bought a Flip Ultra HD instead.
If you’re thinking about getting one of these critters you need to be aware of the lack of image stabilization. Unless you’re one [...]

Shrimp Étouffée

I had some fresh jumbo shrimp a friend brought me so I decided to make an étouffée.
(If you use frozen shrimp try to find them with the shell on.)
I use a dark roux and for that I take the advice of Paul Prudhomme and use vegetable oil. (I don’t have much luck getting the color [...]
