D-railing

Did you know that they have a term for drunken emailing?
It’s called d-railing.
—–A term that was probably started by the Blackberry community.

There’s also drunk blogging.
—–Somebody has started a drunk blogging day.
Sober blogging is a lot more work, but less likely to get you sued, punched or divorced.

Drunk Ebaying.
—-Godawful expensive

Drunk online shopping.
—–I once ordered a chef’s knife…. from the UK.
Fortunately it was a small company and they emailed me to let me know that shipping and customs would cost more than the knife itself.

The worst I have heard of is drunk MySpace.
—–OhMyGod! Who put that picture there?

I’m guilty of everything except the MySpace thing, and that’s only because I don’t have an account.

Alcohol is the great equalizer. It makes us all act like fools and gives our friends something to gossip about.
It also makes email more interesting.

More Oblivion and minor spoilers

I’ve had enough doom and gloom for a while.

I cranked up Oblivion again and discovered some new quirks.
I have the latest update from Bethesda, Blood & Mud, Shivering Isles, the Knights of the Nine installed along with some short quests and a few other mods.

The little blond girl from the Blood & Mud addon shows up in Bruma after you’ve completed the trilogy.
There’s no new dialog, but she runs right up to you at the north gate and stares.

After completing the Bravil quests there was some residual German showed up a couple of times in other quests, but nothing that interfered.

With Oscuro’s addon there are birds, bugs and butterflies everywhere, but you still can’t shoot them down.

In B&M the ghost that shows you the way to the crypt sometimes doesn’t show up when you think she should. She shows up in weird places and sometimes gets stuck.
The door inside the crypt doesn’t open right away for me. There seems to be a serious delay(a minute or more) after I’ve gone through the proper steps, for some unknown reason.
The background drums and chanting that occur at midnight, continue after completion, but I don’t know what they signify.

The independent whore will steal from you if you sleep with her, unless you buy a house in Bravil. At which point she’ll tell you she’s working and will no longer offer to sleep with you. I couldn’t find a way into her treasure room which is in the basement.

The other working girls at the Red Mare will take your money, at any time.
You must lay on the bed and take a nap to start a quest.
The basement key is there for the taking. In the basement has a surprise but no treasure.

When you meet the little blond and you follow her, don’t bother with a horse. The horse never moves faster than a walk.
However, the horse walks on water.
The horse will get stuck spinning in circles in the water. I read something that said that was because mudcrabs were attacking.
The reaction is the same for live or dead mudcrabs and sometimes when there is nothing there. I found that bumping into the horse a couple of times worked.
If the girl is just standing there talk to her. Sometimes you have to choose “let’s move.”
When you enter Lorn and you separate, take the right.

Save often so you can go back a quite few steps when things don’t work quite right.

And remember what every adventurer needs:
A sharp sword, a strong shield and soft toilet paper.

Phoenix: Sheriff’s Fight With Paper Flares Up Again

Sheriff’s Fight With Paper Flares Up Again
By RICHARD PÉREZ-PEÑA
Published: October 20, 2007
The two principal owners of The Phoenix New Times were arrested Thursday, but were then released and charges of disclosing information about a grand jury dropped.

In 2004, The New Times reported on the real-estate holdings of Sheriff Arpaio. The paper said he had concealed his ownership of some properties and questioned how he could have afforded them on his salary. One article included, in print and online, Sheriff Arpaio’s home address.
A state law makes it a felony to disclose the home address of a law enforcement figure on the Internet — though not in print. Allies of the sheriff said the publication had endangered him because he has been the subject of death threats.
The New Times said the address was available through multiple public sources, including government Web sites.

On Thursday, the paper published an article by Mr. Lacey and Mr. Larkin reporting the existence of Mr. Wilenchik’s grand jury investigation and of the subpoena he had obtained for the paper’s records.

The subpoena, reproduced on The New Times Web site, sought the names and Internet addresses of all people who have viewed the site since Jan. 1, 2004, whether or not they had read about the sheriff’s real-estate holdings.

The subpoena also demanded information on readers’ “cookies,” which would show what other Web sites they had visited.

I think we have a new definition for the term “overbroad.”

Is it just me, or does our judicial system get scarier every day?

Three police officers shot in Las vegas

Three metro officers are being patched up at University Medical Center’s Trauma Center. All three were shot while answering a domestic disturbance. Police say the injuries don’t appear to be life-threatening.

Police responded to call from a mother about her adult son. Several minutes later, police got a call of shots fired and an officer down.
The alleged shooter is believed to be the son.

This happened at the Paradise Apartments at Paradise and Twain, about 1:30 or 2:00 this afternoon.
One officer was shot in the vest, one in the wrist and one in the arm.
Police said two of the three officers were saved from injuries by their bulletproof vests.

The suspect eventually surrendered quietly.

Political Nevada

There’s a domain called Political Nevada that has been in existence since some time around June, that has never been used.
The site admin posted a short help wanted article. He hasn’t discussed it with the site owner, which explains the lack of firm details.

I agree with the sentiment that Political Nevada is too nice a domain name to waste.
Unfortunately, I’m not politically connected, so it would be useless for me to attempt to write for them.

Knowing the people involved, I’d say it’s going to be another Babs is evil site.
This is far too exclusive. Most politicians are evil to one degree or another.
They live in a world where everything is judged by what someone else can do for them as far as votes go, or a simple “what’s it worth to you.”

I’ll stop here. Before I go off on a full blown tyrade.

If you have the connections to get the good stuff leave a comment with them.
Or drop me a line through my contact form and I’ll relay your info.

Shadowy Russian Firm Seen as Conduit for Cybercrime - washingtonpost.com

Shadowy Russian Firm Seen as Conduit for Cybercrime - washingtonpost.com
In another recent report, the Cupertino, Calif.-based security firm Symantec said that the Russian Business Network is responsible for hosting Web sites that carry out a major portion of the worlds cybercrime and profiteering.

The company “is literally a shelter for all illegal activities, be it child pornography, online scams, piracy or other illicit operations,” Symantec analysts wrote in a report. “It is alleged that this organized cyber crime syndicate has strong links with the Russian criminal underground as well as the government, probably accomplished by bribing officials.”

Evidently you have to prove you’re a criminal before they’ll host you.

We’re talking about a country where the intelligence and police communities are so closely tied to the various Russian mobs that you need a scorecard to tell them apart.
Why does anyone seem surprised?

PC World - Business Center: Dell Hands Control of Desktops to IT Departments
The company last week announced the On-Demand Desktop Streaming, a server-based software, hardware and services offering that streams the OS, applications and data to diskless desktop clients over a Gigabit Ethernet network.

Hey boys and girls.
Does anyone else remember dumb terminals and the mess created by running everything off a central server?

I guess the dinosaurs aren’t extinct after all.

$10,000 Blogging Scholarship

Weblog Tools Collection » Blog Archive » $10,000 Blogging Scholarship

Yep, no joke.
10 large for having an opinion.
CollegeScholarships.org is entertaining votes for the 2007 round of its $10,000 blogging scholarships.

To my mind, on the whole, blogs are nothing more than the editorial pages spread across the net.
So I’m having some difficulty in figuring out why anyone would give these folks money.

Not that I have anything against scholarships. It’s just that I can’t seem to get my head wrapped around the whys of this one.
Unless it’s simply a way of promoting what has become a full blown industry, with it’s attendant software, hosting and ad sales.

Las Vegas News Blog: Las Vegas Strip Club Review: Scores Archives

Las Vegas News Blog: Las Vegas Strip Club Review: Scores Archives

I see that they got someone to review strip clubs over on the Las Vegas Vegas blog.
The thing that struck me was not the review, but the first picture.

Is it just me, or does Scores look like the set for a high priced remake of Porky’s?
