World’s dumbest advertisers
Breaking news from Las Vegas, home of some of the world’s finest, and some of the world’s dumbest, advertising stunts:
Last night at about 10:20, 09/05/06, the news reported a billboard, put up by an online company, probably another online poker promotion, with $100,000, in cash, in a clear plastic box. The bright yellow billboard, with an arrow pointing down to the display box, full of real money, read something to the effect, “You can win this cash”.
This morning, at about 6:10, 09/06/06, the news reported, that while the security guard, who was supposedly watching the money, was in a store getting something to drink, or in his car sleeping, depending on which story you believe, someone just couldn’t resist, they climbed the billboard, broke into the box and took $100,000 in one dollar bills.
I have no doubt, that the people who did it will get caught, the police, who didn’t know about this stunt, until about 10:00 last night, when the news called them for comment, found a car, this morning, on the east side of town, with, “a lot of cash,” inside.
Can you imagine, trying to run off with 100,000, one dollar bills. Ok, now you’ve got them, aside from using them to buy a hernia belt, what the hell are you going to do with that many singles, tell your bank that you made really good tips last night?
I know, I know, you tell the guy at the Mercedes dealership, that you’ve been mowing lawns and saving from your paper route since you were 10, just so you could buy a car.
I shouldn’t make fun of the so called criminals, after all, they were just opportunists, who saw all that cash just sitting there, undefended and couldn’t resist.
What were the promotors thinking?
You put all that cash out in plain sight, in a plastic box, and then hire a rent-a-cop, who’s goal in life, is to find a real job, or who is trying to get by on social security, and needs to supplement his income, either way you get someone, who’s anything, but, a highly trained professional.
And then you look shocked when somebody steals your money.
If this turns out to be an advertising stunt, then they got the coverage, but if it’s a real robbery, and it probably is, they sure look dumb.
This is just a suggestion, but, if your brother in-law, suddenly wants to pay back all that money he owes you, and he wants to pay you in one dollar bills, you might want to hold off for a while, you never can tell, if these guys don’t get caught soon, the company may offer a reward.
